Historic Tax Credits Take Center Stage: How the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati Revived the Historic Emery Theater

After three decades of vacancy, Cincinnati’s historic Emery Theater is once again welcoming audiences as the home of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. The ambitious rehabilitation restored the 1911 theater’s grand historic character while introducing the accessibility, technology and expanded stage needed for a modern performance venue. Historic Tax Credits (HTCs) were a key piece of the project’s capital stack, helping make the long-awaited revival possible.

In the September Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits, Heritage President Cindy Hamilton takes readers behind the scenes of the project and explores how the team balanced preservation with the theater’s modern needs. (Image courtesy of Terrex Construction, LLC)
