Project Details

Heritage Consulting Group worked with Milwaukee-based developer J. Jeffers & Co. to secure historic tax credit approvals, making possible the rehabilitation of the historic Milwaukee Journal Building in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The building is composed of the original 1924 Art Deco landmark with the Mid-Century Modern addition constructed in 1962. Rebranded the Journal Commons, the 1924 building features 141 market rate apartments with 13,000 square feet of commercial space. The 1962 addition now provides 83 student apartments for the nearby Milwaukee Area Technical College. The murals in the historic editors’ suite, which depict the evolution of communication, were preserved during the conversion.

Heritage listed the building in the National Register of Historic Places and secured approvals for state and federal historic tax credits.
